FROM YOUR COUNCILOR
PRECINCT 1 ANN CANEDY

Representatives from several interest and constituent groups were selected by the Mass. Dept of Transportation to participate in a task force study of access routes in and around Hyannis. These routes include Exits 6 and 7, proposed Exit 6.5, Willow Street, Phinneys Lane, Mary Dunn Road, Routes 132, 6A and 28.

I am pleased and privileged to be a member of that Task Force. I welcome your comments, questions, concerns.

The next meeting will be held at the Barnstable High School in the Senior Cafeteria on June 20th at 10 am. The meeting is expected to last until noon. The main purpose of the meeting is to introduce the consultant and review existing studies and projects in the area.

New Barnstable Property Tax Policy:

Bills will be sent out twice a year:

· Beginning of July for August 1 and November 1 deadlines;

· Beginning of January (issues 12/31) for February and May deadlines.

Bills due in August and November are “preliminary” or estimated tax bills. This bill is normally one half of the previous year’s taxes (including betterments if any).

The bill reflecting the actual tax will be due February 1 and May 1.

Abatement requests can only be filed after the receipt of this bill (early January). All abatements must be filed by Feb. 1.

You can choose to pay quarterly or biannually.

If you choose to pay quarterly, your payment is due NO LATER than:

* 1st Quarter: August 1
* 2nd Quarter: November 1
* 3rd Quarter: February 1
* 4th Quarter: May 1.

If you choose to pay biannually, your 1st and 2nd Quarter bills are due on August 1;

Your 3rd and 4th Quarter bills are due February 1.

Unlike Federal tax, your tax payment is considered late if it arrives after the due date (post mark date is irrelevant!)

Bills can be paid ON LINE. For information, go to website: www.town.barnstable.ma.us and click on Pay Taxes On Line
